Board approves Christmas tree sales lot

FLINT TWP. — if you’ve bought your Christmas tree and wreaths from Brett’s Trees at Corunna and Diamond streets, you can do so again this year. The Township Board of Trustees recently granted approval to Brett Jenkins of Lake City to operate the lot again this year from Nov. 25 to Dec. 25. The lot is adjacent to the Cash Store at 4189 Corunna Road and has permission from the owner.. Operating hours will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. Township Clerk Kim Courts said Jenkins has operated at that corner for about 15 years without problems. His outdoor seasonal sales permit also allows a travel trailer office. The lot will have two employees, according to information submitted on the permit application. — R.S.

Principals get iPads and homework

FLINT TWP. — Principals at Carman- Ainsworth schools have received an iPad computer for professional use, according to a recent report from assistant superintendent Steve Tunnicliff to the school board. The technology came with several homework assignments including downloading a book for an administrative study, downloading a Classroom Walkthrough App and using it to conduct a building walkthrough, downloading at least one children’s learning App and one leadership/productivity App. Tunnicliff also said the principal would be given additional “homework assignments’’ throughout the school year to bolster using this new technology in their leadership roles. — R.S.

Half-off sale at Goodwill stores this weekend

FLINT TWP.— Just in time for last-minute Halloween costume shopping, all Goodwill Mid- Michigan stores will be holding a one-day sale of 50 percent off everything in the store this Saturday. The Flint Township store is located at 4043A Miller Rd. Saturday hours are 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. Costume ideas are posted on the Goodwill website at www.goodwill.org. — R.S.

Ananich to hold coffee hours

SWARTZ CREEK — State Rep. Jim Ananich will host a coffee hour to hear constituents’ concerns and discuss State Capitol undertakings at the Country Carriage Restaurant, 9237 Miller Rd., Oct. 28 from 8-9:30 a.m. — M.R.

Craft bazaar planned

SWARTZ CREEK — St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church is having its annual Craft Bazaar, Nov. 19, 9 a.m. -5 p.m. There will be gift baskets, crafts, baked goods and children's activities including lunch with Saint Nicholas.
