Photo by Rhonda Sanders FLINT TWP. — Shrimp N’ More, 3461 Corunna Road, one of the few independently-owned and operated restaurants in the township, is boarded up and closed as a result of damage caused by a fire.

Firefighters were called to the restaurant on Friday, July 3, when a passerby noticed smoke coming from the windows, said assistant fire chief Mike Burkley, in a report to the township board of trustees.

Firefighters found a fire in the ceiling of the kitchen area, which required punching through three rooflines, and two ceilings, with flames between each one, he said.

Firefighters remained on the scene about two and a half hours to ensure that the fire was fully extinguished. Burkley said the fire appeared to be non-suspicious.

The restaurant opened May 30 last year, just west of the I-75 freeway, opposite of the Rave Cinemas parking lot, in a small building formerly occupied for many years by the Happy Valley Oriental restaurant.

The restaurant had undergone extensive remodeling including a new color scheme, furniture, lighting and flooring. It also was divided into separate dining and take-out areas and offered banquet and meeting space.

It closed down for a few weeks in late spring of this year to revamp operations, according to an announcement that was posted out front on a portable roadside message board. It stated plans to reopen around the first of June.

The owners could not be reached for comment on whether they are planning to renovate and reopen the business
