Drive through the decades at the Back to the Bricks Tune-Up Party

File photo byRhonda Sanders FLINT TWP. — From the Fabulous Fifties, through the Sensational Sixties to the Sizzling Seventies ... Flint Township will kick off the Back to the Bricks Tune Up Party Week on Monday, August 3 with a “Driving Through the Decades” theme, highlighting cars from those eras.

This year, ITT Technical Institute, 6359 Miller Road, has been added to cruise stops that as usual include Genesee Valley Center and Duke’s Car Stereo, according to a press release.

The 5th annual event begins at noon at ITT Technical Institute. Car enthusiasts can cruise into the 1950’s and enjoy a live DJ, door prizes and building tours. Vehicle City Tacos and Flint Trolley and Ice Cream Café will be on hand with food and treats available for purchase. Participants will collect their complimentary t-shirt ticket at this location.

At 2 p.m. the party moves to the Genesee Valley Center mall parking lot where guests wlll be transported back to the 1960s via a live performance by the Beatles Tribute Band “Toppermost”. The Metro-Detroit based band is the most booked tribute show in Michigan eight years in a row and the most booked single cast Beatles tribute act in America two years in row.

Genesee Valley Center will also have concessions available for purchase, Back to the Bricks T-shirt sales, displays and giveaways. All events will be located in the mall south parking lot near Logan’s Roadhouse. Participants will have their complimentary t-shirt ticket punched at this location.

Duke’s Car Stereo is the final destination of the drive through the decades with the spotlight on the 1970’s. DJ Bob Steel will get the party started at 5 p.m. Fuddruckers will be on-site with food available for purchase and Duke’s will have raffles throughout the evening. Participants with a complimentary t-shirt ticket that has been punched can redeem their ticket at the ELGA Credit Union tent beginning at 7:30 p.m.

ELGA Credit Union is one of the sponsors of Back to the Bricks. Additional Tune Up Parties will be hosted in Clio, Tuesday, August 4; Linden, Wednesday August 5; Fenton, Thursday August 6; Davison, Friday, August 7 and Mt. Morris/ Beecher, Saturday, August 8.

The Tune Up Parties are the precursor to the official Back to the Bricks kickoff on Tuesday, August 11th. All events will be held rain or shine.
